    Gangnam Style - Psy

    22/05/25 Ocarina listening tips
Today on Ocarina we dust off a true web legend: Gangnam Style, the South Korean catchphrase that revolutionized the online music world in 2012. The protagonist is Psy, an ironic artist who brought Korean Pop to international prominence with this song and won the hearts and enjoyment of adults and children alike.

Released on July 15, 2012, the video reached one billion views in just five months, becoming the first video in YouTube history to cross this milestone, exactly on December 21, 2012. A date that marked the beginning of a new era-at least for the video-streaming platform, which has since seen music video clips steadily dominate the global charts.

But what made Gangnam Style a worldwide hit? First, a driving beat and an instantly recognizable melody. But the real secret lies in the music video, which is colorful, surreal and full of funny and ironic scenes.

The “little horse” dance has gone viral all over the world, imitated by international stars, politicians and, of course, millions of children, who have made it a favorite dance of the period. Not surprisingly, the song remained at the top of the YouTube charts for years.

After Gangnam Style, Psy released another hit video, Gentleman, in 2013, which also surpassed one billion views. But it was with “Gangnam Style” that he marked a before and after in web culture.

With more than 5.5 billion views to date, the video remains among the most viewed videos ever. And although more than a decade has passed, children and adults still remember it, hum it, and of course dance to it!
