    FAQ Version 3

    Do you need help?

You can check the update status of your Ocarina in section [i] by comparing it with the latest release available in the updates section. It is important that Ocarina always has the latest update available.

To update your Ocarina choose the update you wish to install from the list of available updates in the dedicated section of Ocarina Mia and proceed as follows: • save the attachment “ocarina-xx_yy.bin” on your PC
    • insert a USB cable into your Ocarina, which will ask you if you want to connect it as a USB disk, and confirm this choice • Ocarina will show the SD content as if it were a USB stick. Copy the “”ocarina-xx_yy.bin”” file to the root of the “”disk””
    • disconnect the USB cable. Ocarina restarts in standard mode
    • enter the menu, scroll through it, stop the cursor on the “”i””
    • attach the USB cable
    • hold down the square key and the right arrow key at the same time, the firmware upgrade menu will open
    • confirm the ESP32 firmware upgrade by pressing the left arrow key
    • Ocarina restart with the new firmware

Ocarina supports all major audio formats, including MP3, WAV, OGG Vorbis, AAC. For problems with files in these formats see FAQ. 8. Ocarina is always offline and does not support streaming platforms.

The operating systems compatible with Ocarina are as follows:
    – Windows® XP +
    – Mac OS X 10.5+
    – Linux
There is no need to install additional drivers to manage Ocarina.

Yes, it’s possible if they are in Ocarina-compatible formats (see FAQ.3).

Playlists and tracks (within the playlists) are played in alphanumeric order. The maximum number of playlists that can be inserted in the Ocarina Player is 254, and 254 tracks per playlist. If you want to change the playback order, you can rename the files by prefixing the name with an increasing number from 1 to 254, according to the desired order. Each playlist title shows up to 10 characters on the display. Each audio track title shows up to 26 characters on the display.

Check that the playlist is not empty. Ocarina does not display playlists that are empty and / or containing files in incompatible formats.

When a track is playing, its title scrolls across the display. Connect Ocarina to the computer and make sure that:
    – the song is included in a playlist containing a maximum of 254 tracks
    – Ocarina does not play tracks that are not inside a folder,
    – the track is in a compatible format
    – see also FAQ 9

Individual formats can have multiple encodings, which are sometimes forbidden to Ocarina. For example, new purchases made on iTunes may be protected and not work properly. You can convert the file to standard quality MP3 using an online tool like the following: https://online-audio-converter.com/
Here below some other measures to avoid possible problems:
    – rename tracks avoiding particularly long titles or special symbols
    – avoid too heavy tracks (above 25 MB).
You can convert any file to standard quality MP3 and it will play correctly on your Ocarina.

To verify the correct volume of your Ocarina it is necessary to try it with the original tracks. Tracks transferred to Ocarina may have lower volume.
    NB.
    – The volume of Ocarina is set to protect the hearing of children according to the relevant EU law requirements. In this way the volume level can be managed independently by children in total safety.
    – Thanks to the Ocarina Parental Control, it is possible to increase the volume of your Ocarina by setting the Outdoor Volume mode. This choice allows you to increase the volume beyond 75 Db and therefore must only be done voluntarily by an adult.
    – Pay attention: in Outdoor Volume mode, the Ocarina use must always be under the supervision of an adult and the Ocarina must never be brought close to the ear to not risk permanent hearing damage.
    – For adults’ use there is a special update that sets the Outdoor volume permanently and does not need to be activated from the Parental Control. See the Ocarina Update sectio

Ocarina does not reproduce the audio contents when connected to the USB cable.
If the track title scrolls on the display, check that the volume is not at minimum. Keep the right arrow pressed until the volume bar is at maximum on the display.
Check that the uploaded files are in a supported format: Ocarina does not play files that it does not recognize (for the formats see faq 3).
We recommend testing listening to the original tracks.
Finally, you can test with headphones / earphones. If the problem persists, please open a Ticket.

    Check the battery charge status.
If the battery is charged, check that the “”Automatic Shutdown”” setting is disabled (Off).
Check on the display if there is a small square on the top left.
Finally check if the problem occurs with a particular track / playlist (See FAQ 8).

Ocarina only saves the settings of the Sleep timer (Chrono symbol) and of the Shuffle function. The other Parental Control settings are automatically deactivated every time the Ocarina turns off.

The playing time of the fully charged battery is approximately 15 hours. Full charge time is approximately 2 hours.

When Ocarina is charging, the led on the right of the Ocarina key starts flashing and when the charge is complete the led stays on steady.
If you are charging through a laptop, make sure it has a sufficient charge level.
To recharge Ocarina, the computer must be turned on: if it goes to stand-by, the Ocarina battery may not be recharged.
Furthermore, always make sure that the Ocarina USB socket and the USB cable are intact (see also FAQ 27)

Yes, Ocarina can be charged by connecting it to a normal power socket via a battery charger with micro Usb socket and voltage 5V, current at least 1.5A.

Yes, the battery is replaceable but it is necessary to contact the Ocarina Technical Assistance to receive the relevant instructions.
If you prefer to have the battery replaced by the Service, you can open a Ticket to request shipping information.

Yes, it is possible if the home/car stereo has an audio or micro USB input.
    – If the stereo has a USB socket, connect Ocarina using the USB-mini USB cable supplied. Then it will be possible to manage the playback through the stereo controls.
    – If it has an audio input, connect Ocarina through an audio cable with a 3.5 mm jack (not supplied). Reproduction will be handled through Ocarina.

Connect Ocarina to the PC using the supplied USB-micro USB cable. Ocarina appears on your computer as an external device. You can manage (copy, rename, delete etc) the contents directly on the PC as on any external memory (e.g. USB pen or Hard Disk)

    (See also ‘Ocarina Formatting’).

Connect your Ocarina to the PC using the supplied USB-micro cable. Ocarina appears on your computer as an external device. This means that you can transfer the contents from the computer to the Ocarina and vice versa as on any external memory (e.g. USB pen or Hard Disk) by copy / paste or drag & drop.

This message indicates that the internal memory of your Ocarina is empty or that it is not possible to access its contents. First check through your laptop if the memory is actually empty (see also FAQ 7-8-9).
If the memory is not accessible, we recommend to repeat the test with another compatible cable.
If the problem persists, please see the next FAQ.

Two kinds of Reset are possible with Ocarina:
    – Soft Reset: press the Ocarina key for 5 seconds and then turn it back on with the same key. This operation restarts the device while retaining only the selected Timer and Shuffle settings.
    – Hard Reset: insert a paperclip into the hole in the back of the Ocarina shell and press until the Ocarina shuts down and restarts. This operation returns to the starting settings by deleting all updates, but the memory contents are lost.

You can buy a new cable in the shop of www.ocarinaplayer.com or buy a USB cable – mini USB (28-38 AWG) in any electronics store. In the latter case, it is necessary to check that the cable has a micro-USB connector long enough for Ocarina.

Visit the section dedicated to the original configuration of your Ocarina (Ocarina Mia)

For any uploaded content we recommend a periodic back-up.

Check that your Ocarina is charging (see FAQ 15 and 27).
If these indications can’t help, please contact the Ocarina Technical Assistance by opening a Ticket on your “Ocarina Mia” account.

Here below some indications to consider in this case:

    – During charging, the internal led of the Ocarina flashes and when it is fully charged it stays on steadily. If not, check that the USB cable is working and that the USB socket is clean. If in doubt, recharge with another cable, if available (check that the cable used has the micro USB connector as long as the original in order to make contact).
    – Connect your Ocarina to a computer or an Ocarina compatible charger (see User Manual or Quick Start Guide). Make sure they are perfectly connected and that the Ocarina USB socket does not move. – If the Ocarina has not been used for a long time, it is recommended to charge with a more powerful charger: 5V / 2.4A
    Warnings:
    – Some computers must be turned on before being connected to Ocarina or they will not activate the charge, and if they go to pause, they may interrupt it.
    – Sometimes, when the Ocarina battery is very low, the screen may show an indication that the battery is fully charged. Ignore this indication and keep Ocarina charged.
If the problem persists you can open a Ticket.

Ocarina’s warranty does not cover the USB cable. However, if the cable is not working at the order reception, it will be replaced for free upon notification via Ticket.
It is possible to buy a new cable on our e- shop : www.ocarinaplayer.com or buy a USB cable – mini USB (28-38 AWG) in any electronics store. In the latter case, it is necessary to check that the cable has a micro-USB connector long enough for Ocarina.
NB. Ocarina must not be touched by children when connected to the cable. Ocarina’s USB cable and socket have delicate contacts, therefore pay special attention during connection and recharging operations.

Do not try to turn it on or recharge it. Ocarina should be kept in a dry and ventilated place, preferably vertically with the speaker at the bottom.

Also check that the USB socket is clean and that nothing has ended up in it.

After 2-3 days you can try to make a full charge and turn it on again. If your Ocarina does not work, it can still be repaired, you can open a Ticket to request a return to Assistance.

If you have sent Ocarina for assistance after opening a Ticket you will be notified after that our technicians have made a report.

If you do not receive news after 15 days after the shipping, you can request an update by writing to [email protected] indicating your Ticket number.

The Ocarina warranty period is 2 years on device manufacturing defects, 1 year on the battery and is not applied to the cable.
    The procedure is as follows:
    – The customer sends his Ocarina for assistance (a tracked shipment is always recommended).
    – We verify the malfunction and the applicability of the guarantee.
    – If the intervention is not covered by the guarantee, we will send a quotation.
    – If the intervention is covered by warranty, we will complete it and return the Ocarina at our expense.
    – In this case it is also possible to request a shipping costs refund (max € 10.00 from the EU) on the same payment channel used for the purchase or by bank transfer.
    – In any case, before concluding the procedure, we wait for the client confirmation that the Ocarina has been well delivered and the relevant Ticket can be closed.
NB. This procedure can’t be applied outside the EU territory.
For any problem occurred outside the EU, please contact directly the reseller or write to [email protected]
