Today we listen to a popular Christmas song beloved by children around the world: Rudolph the red nosed reindeer
Composed in 1949 by singer-songwriter Jonny Marks, who was inspired by the short story of the same name (1939) by his brother-in-law, Robert L. May, the song conveys a beautiful message of inclusion and valuing diversity. In fact, the main character is a young reindeer who, because of her big red nose, is teased and excluded by the other reindeer. Happily, Santa Claus will know how to value his characteristic: Rudolph, with his bright nose, will be called upon to lead all the other reindeer who must pull the sleigh to deliver presents on Christmas night.
And thanks to the great success of the song, Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer was added to the main team of Santa’s flying reindeer, which then became 9: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet and Cupid, Dunder, Blixem..and Rudolph!
